Dogs chasing livestock is unfortunately something that gets lots of owners and dogs in trouble in many parts of the world.
In the UK disturbance of livestock on agriculture land in an offence and farmers are allowed to shot your dog if they can’t be controlled.
Many people think they have control of their dogs as they trained a good recall in basic obedience classes, but when something is running away looking like a prey, that basic recall is not enough anymore.
Let me tell you what would be my training plan to make sure we cover every possibility of unexpected encounter with livestock when we wouldn’t expect any, so you don’t find yourself unprepared!
But always remember, it doesn’t matter how good your dog is trained, you shouldn’t have your dog off lead around other people’s livestock nor in places where is likely that you will encounter livestock loose like on moors and mountains in the UK.
